Duckworth Dozen with TDNY Intern Alicia Liu

Tell us a little about you.
I spent most of my life growing up in Nanjing, China, and came back to the US to study the BFA design program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Before that, I barely knew what graphic design was and just had a lot of fun in arts in general.

Throughout the years in my college, I’ve been experimenting all kinds of visual mediums and exploring new potentialities as a designer, trying to find my own voice when it comes to design.

Where do you want to live next?
I’d love to stay at New York City. And maybe Los Angeles?

What got you into graphic design?
I’m one of the lucky people that have always known what they want to do professionally. As a kid, I was very into visual arts, but in high school I wasn’t sure what I should do exactly in the future. Then during my research, I was introduced to graphic design, a visual form that is more practical but also creative. Its diverse visual languages and power of communication between people are very intriggering. The more I’m now learning about it, the more I like it.

What typeface best describes your personality?
Messapia. A serif that feels very contemporary, bold, honest, and corky. It also has
a totally different-looking bold style in san-serif which could describe my spirit of always looking out for different things to try. (Idea of variation and diversity?)

Your Man by Joji.

What word would your friends use to describe you?
