What did you do for your Take Flight Awards? What was the inspiration behind it?
Art has always been a passion of mine. With drawing and painting being my first loves, I was naturally led to exploring a career in design. During the COVID lockdown, I reconnected with painting whilst being confined to my house. The creative outlet provided me with form a relaxation and mental rejuvenation, especially after the loss of my Dad. Painting provided a much needed sense of comfort and solace during that time.
What were some of the highlights?
The studio was set in the tranquil French countryside, surrounded by picturesque rivers and beautiful architecture. My teacher, Kate, and her family were very welcoming and I learnt lots of new skills and techniques. It was a truly amazing experience.
What insights did you take away from the experience?
It was refreshing to paint and be creative without following a specific brief. Being able to experiment and make a mess with my own projects each day was a great reminder of how important it is to keep a sense of playfulness in my design work.
